As an organization that cares about our city’s history and future, MTC is reaching out to gather opinions from our community about the monuments that were removed from their original locations since 2017 (including the Robert E. Lee statue from Lee Circle, the Jefferson Davis monument, the P.G.T. Beauregard statue, McDonogh and the Liberty Place obelisk).
These monuments have been in city warehouses since their removal, and discussions over the years have included the possibility of placing them in a museum setting—where they could be preserved as historical artifacts with full context and educational interpretation.
